What is virtual tourism and what is The Metaverse?

In simple terms, virtual tourism is where all or some aspects of an experience for visitors take place with digital technology, such as an Augmented Reality experience where you see the contrast of a city from current day to how it was 100 years ago.

Where the experience in a virtual 3D space, usually with you appearing as an avatar or using VR headset, such as an immersive tour of the Titanic, we say this fully 3D immersive experience is part of The Metaverse.

The changing internet

The general consensus is the internet is changing from a 2D "distanced" experience of looking and clicking to a 3D "immersive" one where the opportunity exists for a more dynamic, productive and social experience.

And we agree, The Metaverse is just another way of saying, the future internet.

From 2D to 3D

Change creates opportunity

This new digital age presents opportunities for attractions to build experiences, curated spaces, host events, provide avatar wearables for personal expression and many other new revenue streams that did not exist before.

One of the top reasons for positivity about the Metaverse in data analysis we have seen is that, first, it allow history to live and be told in many new creative ways, and secondly, it provides access and inclusion for people with disabilities.

But it needs careful management

A perfect example

Holocaust survivors are preserving their memories by creating Holograms of themselves that not only tell the story of their ordeal but through the use of technology can also respond to audience questions authentically as if the person was there.

The same technology creates opportunities to interview soldiers from the Battle Of Culloden and get perspectives from those on each side of the battle, through using technology a historic archives to retell the stories.
